Fab! Special (pop documentary)
I love documentaries about flop pop acts (you can check out some of my faves here) and I discovered a very interesting one yesterday on YouTube. It’s about Fab!, an Irish girlband from the ’90s which included Tara Lynch, sister of Edele and Keavy from B*Witched and Shane from Boyzone. At the time the documentary was filmed, they’d already released their best song Turn Around but it was a flop (not my fault - I bought it on cassette!), so realising they could only have a hit with the backing of a major label they desperately try to get signed by one.
Although they’re likeable girls, they’re in their mid to late 20s so couldn’t compete with the younger girlbands of the time like B*Witched and Cleopatra. Tara also has a 7-year-old son, which they bizarrely believe they’ll be able to keep quiet when they launch in the UK… even though he is heavily featured in the documentary and known about in Ireland. Also look out for the bit where they decide to be rebellious in a hotel, so jump on their beds to a song by fellow pop flops Ultra.
