Song of the Day: Nicki Minaj - Marilyn Monroe

Great work from Dr Luke - he’s got Nicki singing a song that would have fit on Demi Lovato’s last album! This could be a big hit, although it would probably annoy a lot of her fans as it doesn’t have any rapping in it.

Song of the Day: Blue October - The Worry List

About once a year I find myself randomly obsessed with a song from the genre I call “sop-rock” - it’s a soppy version of rock music, basically. Previous faves have included Hanging By A Moment by Lifehouse and Shattered by O.A.R., and this year’s choice comes from an American group I’d never heard of until I spotted this song on the current...

Song of the Day: Alphabeat - Vacation

Alphabeat are officially BACK! This song will be available to download in the UK from midnight. It’s a return to the sound of their first album, which I’m pleased about as I think that’s what they’re best ar. It’s a shame that by releasing Vacation without any prior promo it won’t have any impact on the UK charts, but it’s great to...

Song of the Day: Charlotte Perrelli & Kate Ryan -...

She may not have made it into tonight’s Melodifestivalen final, but Charlotte Perrelli’s not giving up on being a Europop queen. She’s collaborated with Belgian pop star Kate Ryan, whose Eurovision entry Je t’Adore was also unfairly neglected by the public voters, on a schlagerpoptastic new duet. They really should have entered it in Belgium’s...

Song of the Day: Luminites - Gotta Get Into It

Former This Must Be Pop Live performers Luminites have a new video out, and I think the song may just be their best yet! It even references The Wanted, just in case I wasn’t already on board. Very excited to see what happens next with this group.

Song of the Day: Meiko - Piano Song
Just randomly discovered this lovely indie-pop song. Meiko is an American singer (not to be confused with the raccoon Meeko from Pocahontas) who seems to have had her songs played in every TV show going. This one was actually in a film called TiMER which I think is one of the best and most underrated indie films of the past few years.

Song of the Day: DJ Project ft. Giulia - I'm...

Most of the dance songs that are popular in Europe these days don’t bother with any kind of melody or song structure, so this Romanian track was a really refreshing discovery. It’s nothing remarkably original but a really nice light, summery dance-pop song that would appeal to fans of late 90s/early 2000s artists like Tina Cousins and Fragma.

Song of the Day: Shaka Ponk - My Name Is Stain

Looking through the international charts on Shazam’s website I happened upon this rather unusual song which is popular in France at the moment. I don’t really know what to make of it but I think I quite like it! Confusingly I’ve looked on their Wikipedia and none of them are called Stain. Can anyone explain?
